General notes

This project is an experimentation of the Web Audio API. It generates binaural beats: it consists of 2 oscillators, one in each ear, playing simultaneously at almost the same frequency (you must wear headphones). Note that only the latest versions of Chrome and Firefox are supported.

It supposedly has an effect on the brain: it's said that it synchronizes the brain waves' frequency to the difference of frequencies (called the binaural beat). For your information, here's a list of typical brain waves and their associated states of mind (taken from here):

Frequency rangeNameUsually associated with:
> 40 HzGamma wavesHigher mental activity, including perception, problem solving, fear, and consciousness
13–39 HzBeta wavesActive, busy or anxious thinking and active concentration, arousal, cognition, and or paranoia
7–13 HzAlpha wavesRelaxation (while awake), pre-sleep and pre-wake drowsiness, REM sleep, Dreams
8–12 HzMu wavesMu rhythm, Sensorimotor rhythm
4–7 HzTheta wavesDeep meditation/relaxation, NREM sleep
< 4 HzDelta wavesDeep dreamless sleep, loss of body awareness
